Résumé: | Constitutional change in Nigeria in the period stretching between 1945 and 1960 unleashed three constitutions (the Richards Constitution 1945, the Macpherson Constition 1951, the Lyttelton Constitution 1954), in addition to a series of constitutional conferences in 1957 and 1958. Each constitutional consession revealed shortcomings that were not accepted by the Nigerian political leaders, and which consequently led to its reform. The final outcome of these developments gave birth to the independence of Nigeria with an NCNC/NEPU-NPC coalition government , yet the polity created was not a solid one as later problems revealed in the post independence period. |
