AESTHETICS AND BEAUTY IN MODERN AMERICAN DRAMA: EUGEN O’NEILL’S “BEYOND THE HORIZON”, “MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA” & “THE GREAT GOD BROWN”

الملخص (بالعربية) :

بلغ المسرح الأمريكي أوج تطوره في بدايات القرن العشرين، مستلهما معظم أسسه و تقنياته من المسرح الأوربي و خاصة الإنجليزي منه، حيث جاء هذا المسرح تعبيرا عما عاشته أمريكا في تلك الفترة التي ا تسمت بالحروب و الأزمات المتتالية التي أثرت سلبا على واقع المواطن الأمريكي، وأصبحت بذلك أرضا خصبة لكتاب المسرح الذين أبدعوا في التعبير عن هذا الواقع الاجتماعي بأشكال و مضامين مختلفة. ومنهم "يوجين اونيل" (1888-1953) الذي استطاع بكتاباته المسرحية بلوغ عقول و قلوب الجماهير. انطلاقا من هذه الفكرة تحدد الرسالة مجال اشتغالها وتحديد معالمها و ذلك عبر وضعها في سياقها الجمالي. ---------------------------------------------- Summary Theater in America reached its peak by the early part of the twentieth century, importing good theater norms from Europe. This period marked a real turning point in the history of the American theater; people were living a kind of psychological exhaustion as a result of the Great War. Hence, American playwrights explored the space of theater to expose what is hidden beneath a silent cry of a desperate nation. Eugene O’Neill (1888-1953), is the first American playwright to receive world-wide recognition. He could, with artistry, address peoples’ minds and psyche without getting the least out of the norms of drama. Thus, the beauty of his plays is highly noticed in the way he communicates modern psychological meanings using specific aesthetic values that go back on time to the golden age of the ancient Greeks. Mythic plot and characters are his enchanted world that he aesthetically explores to be close to his audience’ hearts and feelings. Résumé (Français et/ou Anglais) :

---------------------------------------------- Le théâtre Américain Contemporain a connu son apogée depuis les débuts du XXème siècle en s’inspirant du théâtre Européen particulièrement le théâtre Anglais. Ce dernier a reflété le quotidien du citoyen Américain dans une société déchirée par les crises. Cette situation à influencer plusieurs écrivains et dramaturge dans le champ théâtrale, parmi eux Eugene O’Neill (1888-1953). Cette thèse a pour objectif d’appréhender certains travaux de cet écrivain dans un contexte esthétique.
