The study tries to identify the nature of the relationship between the exchange rate and foreign trade through a
basic theoretical approach, and a analysis on the case of China during the period (1978-2012) is presented. This
investigation aims at clarifying the role played by Yuan in sustaining the foreign trade as well as the invasion the
Chinese commodities to the markets over the world.
This analysis concluded that The Yuan exchange rate has an adverse impact on the value of China's foreign
trade as the increase of the parity Yuan/Dollar leads to the decline in the foreign trade and vice versa even if this
impact is much stronger in the long run than the short one.
China has succeeded through a policy of devaluation and diversification of its export structure to present a
competitive advantage, the fact that enabled it to penetrate forcefully the markets in the world. |
